How to Style a Shelf + Shelf Decor Recommendations
The more storage space, the merrier. Beyond making extra room, shelves also make for the perfect decor spot! When decorating a shelf, you should be thinking about how you’re going to incorporate your design tastes while making room for your essentials. Think decorative but functional. For example, if you’re a voracious reader and plan on styling your shelf with books, do so in an odd function & add unique bookends to incorporate both style and functionality! I’ve listed below the four tips I would take into consideration prior to styling a shelf.Â
4 Tips to Take into Consideration Prior to Styling your Shelf
1. Balance small pieces with large pieces
Too many small pieces can make the shelf look cluttered. Using large pieces with small pieces will make the shelf look more balanced and visually appealing.
2. Repetition
Get familiar with repeating! The repetition of objects creates a sense of unity & consistency. The more we see something, the more likely we are to remember it. It creates an impression on us which is why it’s a staple in design! You can repeat in any way you like, whether it’s in color, physical objects, or texture.
3. Triangle arrangement
Grouping objects in a triangle arrangement is most visually appealing to the eye. The variation of heights in the triangle arrangement will make your space appear filled but not cluttered.
4. Group in odd numbers
Grouping in sets of three or five are the most pleasing to the eye.
