Pillows pillows pillows!! Decorative decorative/throw pillows are probably not the first thing that come to mind when you’re buying furniture for your new home/apartment, but they are 100% on the list! Whether you plan to use your pillows to birth an aesthetic or just for comfort, there is no way you’re going to have a home without pillows in them! And just to be clear, I’m not talking about bed pillows, I’m talking about every other kind of pillow. The throw pillows, the decorative pillows, the lumbar pillows, the couch pillows, the accent pillows, the fluffy pillows, etc. With so many options, it can become quite tricky and overwhelming. Therefore, I’ve decided to section this blog post by pillow category and colors in order to make this a fun process for you instead of a stressful one.
Throw pillows / Decorative pillows
As the name clearly states, throw pillows are the kind you “throw” onto a piece of furniture. Although some people are under the opinion that throw pillows do nothing but add clutter and make you uncomfortable, I disagree! First, not all throw pillows are stiff. Second, I think a stiff pillow can actually be necessary sometimes. If you’re sitting on a mushy pillow all day, your back is probably going to hurt much more than if you were sitting on a stiff pillow! So, it’s actually a great substitute to have when needed. Aaand don’t even get me started with the aesthetic a throw pillow can provide, hence the word “decorative!” With every color and fabric available, it is literally impossible not to find one that suits your space perfectly.
Lumbar pillow
If you’re someone who has horrible posture and back pain, then you need to invest in a lumbar pillow. Made of memory foam, lumbar pillows help prevent back pain by decreasing muscle fatigue. They do so by filling in the gap between the spine and the seat that is usually the reason your back is at an inward curve or for a better word, slouched. However, this is not the only purpose of a lumbar pillow, as they can make for quite the aesthetic as well.

Yes, yes, yes, I know what you’re thinking. Accent pillows are technically the same thing as decorative pillows but I thought I’d give them their own section because they’re extra funky. Accent pillows are not only made to tie in colors and fabrics, but to get creative. These kinds of pillows can be completely random! They may not match your room in any way, shape, size, or color, but that’s exactly what a statement piece is. I like to think of these pillows as artwork and a reflection of one’s personality.

Though these pillows are visually appealing, leather options are more limited than fabric and any damage will be clearly noticeable. The benefits of leather, however, are that leather is very easy to clean and can be extremely durable if taken good care of.
